Foliage Description: Good fall color; unusual foliage color; Tufted circular clump of stiff, deep green fronds; blade is once-pinnate, lance shaped broadest at the base; fertile fronds are taller, more rigid, more erect, constricted at tip and die in winter; sterile fronds are smaller and less erect and remain evergreen; pinnae are auricled with marginal bristle teeth; stipe and rachis are scaly; short stipe is green but brown at base; yellow spored sori occur only on terminal one third of the frond
